The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and labor/subcontractor costs. This role uses technical project information, such as blueprints, specifications, and historical data, to produce estimates that support competitive bidding, efficient planning and profitable project execution. The role collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, architects, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure cost projections are realistic, current and aligned with company objectives.
The Estimator role could be a hybrid position after successful completion of in-person onboarding and training.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform these essential duties satisfactorily:
- Apply working knowledge of general construction methods, sequencing, and materials to prepare
timely and accurate cost estimates, bid proposals and cost analysis reports.
- Review and interpret full project and construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and supporting documents to understand project scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment
and overhead.
- Conduct occasional site visits to verify field conditions and collect measurements as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams (project management, operations, sales) and external stakeholders (vendors, subcontractors) to gather pricing information and clarify assumptions.
- Use specialized estimating software (Procore) and spreadsheets to model and refine estimates.
- Provide value engineering suggestions and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising project quality.
- Track and update historical cost data to improve future estimating accuracy and maintain the company’s estimate database.
- Present and explain estimates to leadership and clients as needed; support pre-bid meetings and clarifications.
- Monitor changes to project scope, market price shifts or schedule impacts
and update estimates accordingly.
- Keep and maintain (via electronic means) accurate records of hours worked each day.
- Assist with project handoff or transition support to project management, operations and sales teams as needed.
- Support cost tracking, documentation, or post-bid analysis when requested.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings or process improvement initiatives related to estimating or project planning.
- Utilize construction management platforms (such as Procore) if available to support coordination and documentation.
