School is almost out for the summer. It’s time to get outdoors, hang out with friends, go to summer camps and do all the things that you didn’t have time for in school; however, as a musician you can’t just take the summer to neglect your instrument! Students who tend to push practicing out of their summer schedule can have a small disadvantage in what they have retained when the time comes to perform and rehearse again. Practicing over the summer with the intent of maintaining what you know does not take as long as one would expect it to, and maybe you will find that the summer can be the best time to hone in on fundamental skills required for your next step.
Summer is in session, and so is music! I am offering lessons to the musician in your family, once a week at the following rates:
Trombone/Euphonium: $25/each 30 minute lesson or $50/full hour lesson. As this is in my primary realm, your trombonist or euphonium musician will have a head start on what makes a bass tone so full and resonant. They would attain skills to further the development of major scales, flexibility, range and more as we explore the concepts that make a trombone or euphonium stand out! With trombone, we can go through the various genres that it can jive well with, such as jazz, pop, ska, “commercial”/musical, classical and much more.
Guitar/Piano: $25/each 30 minute lesson. Welcome to the structuring of the beginnings of becoming a guitarist or pianist. These lessons are designed to get students started in the process of music creation with the ease of familiar songs, while working on the beginnings of fundamentals such as scales, chord progressions and even finger/hand positioning across the keyboard or fretboard. Beginning with household names in beginner tunes, your musician will be well on their way to becoming familiar with these aspects in their instrument of choice, enabling them to seek out intermediate and advanced instructors as they advance.
Trumpet: $25/each 30 minute lesson. The precision of a trumpet sound requires accuracy in air control, full-bodied sound and expressive traits akin to trumpet performers. These lessons may also include a dive into the world of jazz, where trumpet artists have flourished in from big band to bebop to avant garde jazz and on and on.
Music theory: $25/each 30 minute lesson or $50/full hour lesson. Breaking the rules of music can be fun, but if you don’t break them in just the right way, then you may not receive the results you were putting work into. We will learn the structure of music theory that allows musicians to seamlessly connect elements together to create complex musical journeys. From counterpoint and intervals to the crazy world of 12-tone to the psychedelic dance in a wash of aetherial EDM, music theory holds all of these together.
Lessons will be scheduled on a consistent day of the week and time, on the mutual availability of the student/parents and Hayden Woods. More information can be found by emailing show contact info
and diving into what dedication music requires and the grand rewards it will bestow.
