The 2018 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports 30th Anniversary Edition was released to celebrate three decades since the original Africa Twin helped Honda dominate the Paris-Dakar Rally. The 998cc parallel twin engine is the same proven mill found in the base model, delivering smooth, tractable power with a nice midrange punch. Throttle-by-wire introduced in 2018 brings refined control, and the multiple riding modes and HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control) help tailor the bike to changing road or trail conditions. With the manual transmission model, shifting is precise and satisfying. The gearbox is well-matched to the engine’s character, and the light clutch and well-defined gear ratios make it easy to manage even in technical terrain or stop-and-go traffic.
One of the key differences with the Adventure Sports trim is its upgraded suspension. With nearly 9 inches of travel front and rear and a higher ground clearance, this bike is more capable off-road than the standard version. The Showa components offer excellent support over rough terrain and are fully adjustable for dialed-in performance. The 6.37-gallon tank extends range. Heated grips, a larger skid plate, 10.7 inches ground clearence and crash bars come standard. A taller windscreen offers better wind protection and the ergonomics are upright, roomy, and designed for both seated and standing riding positions, especially comfortable for taller riders or anyone planning long days in the saddle.
