Boys and Girls, these cars are getting scarce and as such, they need to be recreated in a very imaginative and creative way. These two Eagles--an '83' Sport with a 5 speed manual (109,931 miles)--VERY RARE--and an '86' Limited with automatic (133,800 miles)--are getting more RARE by the day. AMC Eagles were only made from 1980 until 1987. AMC was the VERY FIRST manufacturer to put a conventional family sedan or wagon on the market and make it four-wheel-drive; the very beginning of other auto makers starting to follow this example of taking these types of cars and engineering them with all-wheel-drive so as to provide additional, reliable winter-time driving capabilities. (Sidebar here: Because they are "dead", bring a car trailer or a tow-bar to take them home.) Continuing: AMC and Jeep were under the same corporate umbrella back then and shared engineers in common so it was a natural innovation for this model of their cars to become four-wheel drive too, thereby making the Eagles a highly desirable car back then. What makes them "WHAT IF" cars? About 20 years ago there was an article in my HOT ROD magazine that featured a "plain jane" Chevy Malibu recreated into a "resto-mod"--a restoration with modifications. The owner's idea was "what if" Chevrolet had patterned a Malibu after a first generation Z-28 Camaro ie.burnt orange color, a 4-speed 'rock-crusher' Borg-Warner super T-10 transmission, rallye wheels, hounds-tooth cloth interior, with a "hot", big block 427 under the hood instead of the "hot", small block, 302, etc. It was a beautiful, super-cool car and the idea stuck with me. As I continued to read HOT ROD featuring custom cars over the years since then, witnessing the incredible creativity among car owners and custom car builders, my "fevered imagination" began to think about "what if" Carrol Shelby (before he passed away a few years ago)--the originator of the HOT little two-seater 427 Cobra, plus the Boss 302, Boss 429, and KR 500 (King of the Road) Mustangs; some of the most highly sought after and "lusted after" collector cars over the years since the sixties--had designed and built a Shelby version of the AMC Eagles; both wagons and sedans??? He did it for the little Dodge Rampage "pickup", so I reasoned--an ugly little front wheel drive, Subaru BRAT type of two-seater . . . in my opinion--so why wouldn't he do it for the Eagles which are far and away a much cooler car than a Rampage if he had been asked nicely, and you said, "please"??? As my imagination continued to "fever", I "imagineered" myself into Shelby's mind and thought about transplanting the entire powertrain out of a second generation ford Explorer with the 302 / 5.0 L V-8, 'hopped-up', to include the Explorer's independent rear suspension; then add Shelby's trademark appearance colors, stripes, hood scoops, and spoilers both front and rear . . . and give it a studly name like "Snake Eater" . . . or "Viper Eater" as a tribute to Shelby's genius--insert a big-grin, smiley-face emoji here--or, OR, a "what if" tribute car to Henessy, Lingenfelter, or Roush or any of the other cool car builders on the Motor trend Channel??? Regrettably, I'm unable to seriously consider this idea any further. I recently turned 74, don't have a shop to work in, don't have sufficient funds, and have ongoing medical problems stemming from Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam combined with the two, Pfizer Covid-19 shots. So, these two cars each need a good home with a new hopefully creative owner, with capabilities to make them into their own new modernized, 21st Century versions that--were AMC engineers all still alive--would be extremely proud to see and claim! These cars are an excellent foundation to start from though not running, because they haven't been in accidents and aren't all "cancered-out because they weren't exposed to alot of salty roads. And AMC was one of the first manufacturers to begin using galvanized metal in their body panels to help prevent rust. They both have clear titles. I plan to personally auction them individually to the highest bidder who has cash in hand beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 18th . . . with NO RESERVE!! IF, however, someone shows up in the meantime, with $2,500 in cash before noon on the 18th, I'll take their money and sign over the title to him or her. You're welcome to come by and look at them ahead of time on Western Drive, three doors up from Durston (big FOR SALE sign out front). The cars aren't "pretty"; but they are "diamonds-in-the-rough" with incredible potential! So, bring all the $100 bills you can stuff into your pockets and briefcase . . . it doesn't mean you'll need to spend them all; it just means you'll be ready to effectively compete to the best of your ability against anyone else who shows up, sees their creative potential, and wants them, too. Someday, you'll be the very first at a car show to make other custom car builders, cool car aficionados, and fellow AMC owners--and Subaru owners--stop and drool and start to think, "Gee, I wish I could own that car!!! . . . I wonder if I could talk him into selling it to me???"
